Ahoy, there matey! Beware of the pirates coming into our harbor & lands!

On Saturday, January 28th, 2011, thousands of locals & visitors will line the Tampa waterfront to watch as the fully rigged pirate ship Jose Gasparilla sails into the south end of Hillsborough Bay with hundreds of pirates aboard, cannons booming and a massive flotilla of pleasure boats accompanying it. The ship will dock at the Tampa Convention Center around 1 p.m., where the mayor will surrender the key to the city into the hands of the captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. After the invasion hundreds of pirates will be tossing thousands of beads to hundreds of thousands who line the streets along Tampa’s waterfront. This parade historically brings more than 90 elaborate floats, 14 marching bands, the U.S. Navy Band and 50 pirate krewes.

This year’s special guest & grand marshal is Jim Belushi, the TV & movie star. Jim & his R&B band, the Sacred Hearts, will be playing at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino the night before.
