It’s hard to believe that the Dale Chihuly Collection is already celebrating its first anniversary here in St Petersburg on Saturday, July 16, 2011. I visited the museum within a couple of weeks of the opening and 3 more times since. The installation of each of the gorgeous blown glass collections is absolutely stunning. It literally takes my breath away each time I see the beautiful colors & different shapes of the glass. What a talented genius Chihuly truly is!
The following is taken from the Chihuly Collection website. “The celebration includes the display of love notes, written by guests
that day on beach balls, hung from the trees in North Straub Park throughout the day. The love notes are to St. Petersburg, a nod to the city’s strides in becoming a top national arts destination.”
Located at 400 Beach Drive NE in downtown St. Petersburg, the museum will be open to the public from 10am-8pm on Saturday, July 16. The
admission will only be $5 from 6-8pm. A special celebration will take place in front of the Collection at 8pm including the following activities:
The Academy of Ballet Arts performs a choreographed street dance performance8:10pm –
The 27-member musical sensation Dundu Dole will commence drumming and march
along the sidewalk of Beach Drive crossing into the park at Fourth Avenue NE
with the public following behind.8:30pm –
Fire Dancers from Hip-Expressions joins Dundu Dole in a spectacular dance
representing the importance of fire in the creation of glass.8:45pm –
The public is invited to an on-your-own after-party at 400 Beach Seafood and
Tap House with drink specials for the occasion.
